About us

Celebrating heritage, supporting each other and building friendship in Daegu.

Who we are

Who we are

What drives us

Our vision & mission

Where we are going

Our vision

A happy, healthy and connected Indian community in Korea, where every member can live a balanced, meaningful and prosperous life, and where India and Korea grow closer through friendship and understanding.

We call this BLISS, perfect happiness, achieved through partnership between the public, private institutions and people.

How we get there

Our mission

To foster the emotional and spiritual well-being of the Indian community in Korea by creating a supportive space, which we call SHEE: Social service, Health, Education and Economy, through volunteer activities.

We do this by:

  1. supporting Indians with reliable information on daily life, education, healthcare, housing, visas and work in Korea
  2. celebrating and sharing Indian culture while learning about and respecting Korean culture
  3. creating opportunities for education, research, careers and professional networking
  4. bringing people together through cultural, sports and recreational activities
  5. standing by our members during emergencies and difficult times, within our capacity.

What we stand for

Our values

Unity

One community — whatever state, language or background we come from.

Service

Volunteers helping students, families and newcomers when they need it most.

Respect

Respect for every member, for our Korean hosts and for the law of the land.

Inclusion

Non-profit, non-political and non-religious — everyone is welcome.

Our journey

Our story

Daegu Indians began in 2023 when a small group of Indian researchers in Daegu came together to help newcomers find their feet in Korea: from opening a bank account and getting a residence card to finding Indian groceries and celebrating our festivals far from home.

What started as a simple support group has grown into a community of 870+ members across Daegu and Gyeongbuk. Today DI organises cultural festivals, sports and family gatherings, shares practical guidance on visas, healthcare, housing and careers, and builds friendships between the Indian and Korean communities.

In 2024 we registered as a non-profit association and adopted our Constitution, committing ourselves to transparency, accountability and genuine community benefit. Our story is still being written, by every member who welcomes a newcomer, volunteers at an event or shares what they have learnt.
